Rise of the Apes Sequel Talk
Rise of the Planet of the Apes has brought in $60million at the box office in its very short run at theatres and director Rupert Wyatt is now talking about a potential sequel. Normally I am not a fan of sequels to remakes with the case and point being Rob Zombies abysmal Halloween 2. But considering how polished Rise of the Planet of the Apes was I for one would love to see a sequel.
In an interview with Bleeding Cool he had the following to say about a potential sequel;
“There’s so much we could do… The ideas I’ve had are all sorts of things, ranging from Full Metal Jacket with apes… you could start this story again eight years from where we left off, the next generation of apes, those that have come from our protagonists, perhaps going in to a conflict with humans and showing real fear, in the same way as going into war for young soldiers in this day and age, telling their story.
Or how apes are taking over cities, and being moved into human environments and having to interact with them and deal with things that are part of our culture and understand and evolve through them. Spies that are in the employ of the apes, working against humans and humans maybe existing underground, because that’s a way they can avoid the virus, coming up above ground wearing gas masks, and maybe that’s what dehumanises them.”
Quick warning I am going to be revealing a plot spoiler so hit the back button right now if you have not seen the movie yet. If they do a Rise of the Planet of the Apes Sequel I want to see them show the progression of the virus which is what wipes the human race out. I loved this virus angle because it is completely unrealistic that apes… no matter how smart could take down a nuclear powered human race.
I think combining the spread of the virus with Caesar’s angst over the negative effects of the apes rising up mixed with a new generation of apes who don’t share his passion for humans could make for an intense, action packed and emotional film. As it stands Rise of the Apes has a 90% approval rating within the community making it what I would consider a must see movie.
