Robert Downey Jr. Wants to Do a Halloween Themed Movie
No, Robert Downey Jr. doesn’t want to direct the next sequel to John Carpenter’s Halloween. However, the actor does have eyes for the director’s chair and in an interview with GQ Magazine he talked about his future in Hollywood (say goodbye to Iron Man) and about what he wants to do next.
“You know, I really miss composing music, writing music,” he says. “And I want to direct—I think I’d do a pretty good job.” It turns out that he has an idea. “Nobody,” he says, “has cornered Halloween as a market since Halloween.” He would act in it, too. “I will say only this: I am a Village Voice reporter on the run.”
There’s something fascinating—and perhaps very telltale of the odd and impressive person Robert Downey Jr. has grown into—about the fact that he wants to make this kind of movie, rather than some more obviously personal and cathartic vehicle for self-expression and artistry. “The funny thing is,” he clarifies, “even the stuff that I would want to do as an artistic expression of my own I would like to do in a genre, I would like to do for a price, and I would like to be pretty much sure that it was going to be a hit before I started.”
It’s not much to go on at this point, but combining the holiday of Halloween with Robert Downey Jr. has sent me into a dark fanboy frenzy that I fear there is no escape from. I definitely love the notion of RDJ tackling a horror themed movie, however, for all I know his Halloween idea could be a comedy. So it’ll be interesting to watch and see what develops out of this nugget of information. Given that he’ll have The Avengers 2 on his plate soon enough, it’ll probably be quite some time before we hear anything more substantial than this.
What do you think? Excited about RDJ possibly taking on a horror film? Let us know!
