Rose Byrne Joins Horror Comedy ‘The Something’

It’s not a spoof on “The Happening”, but Rose Byrne (“Insidious: Chapter 2″) has signed up to star in an upcoming horror-comedy that’ll hopefully be as hilarious as that film was.

THR has learned that Byrne will star in the film “The Something”, a space horror-comedy from “22 Jump Street” writer Rodney Rothman.  This is a project that Rothman has been kicking around for a while.  In fact, one of the earliest mentions of it was over four years ago when Collider interviewed him at the premiere of “Get Him to the Greek.”  Here’s how he described the project back then:

[It’s] about four guys in space who have been there for five years and hate each other and it kind of becomes Alien. And they basically end up boarding a ship that has women on it.  It’s the first time they’ve seen women in five years.  And then shit just goes crazy.

So if that initial report holds true, it could be assumed that Rose would play one of the females on the new ship.  However, four years is a long time and the script could have gone through numerous rewrites.  What I’m most interested in now is how the “Alien” reference comes in to play.  Perhaps one of them goes crazy and starts stalking the other crew members? Or maybe the ladies aren’t what they appear to be.  Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
