Scarecrow Kickstarts SyFy’s “31 Days of Halloween”
It’s finally here! October and the mad rush for everyone to start seriously considering what costumes to put together for whatever monster mash being attended. But more importantly, it is one monster month for horror movies! I have to say, I’m pretty impressed with the original television movies that are going to premiere on the SyFy channel as a part of their “31 Days of Halloween” series. The first original title to kick-start their lineup is Scarecrow which is about, well, a super evil scarecrow. And the graphics and visual effects for this demon rendition look pretty darn good.
The story is about a town that celebrates the 100th annual scarecrow festival, and a bunch of adults and teens decide to go and visit the scarecrow on a local farm. The legends about the scarecrow turn out to be true, as the group of people come face to face with a grotesque and murderous entity. The story is very straight-forward and if you treat this movie for the obvious popcorn-thriller that it is, I think you will enjoy it. Although this isn’t a particularly scary movie, this may be a great title for the kiddos that you’re trying to ease into the horror genre…Not quite ready to let them watch the rated R titles.
The film features a well rounded-out cast of women that can hold their own. There is Julia Maxwell, who you may remember for the already acclaimed cult-classic American Mary, yet her role is way too brief. Then there are Nicole Muñoz, Lacey Chabert and Brittney Wilson. Lacey slowly emerges as the film’s protagonist while Brittney becomes the quasi-villain. The movie will air this month on October 5th at 9/8c.
Here is the trailer and, if you get a chance to watch it when it airs on TV, let us know what you think:
