Scream Factory Releasing a Collector’s Edition of ‘Silent Hill’
When you think of films getting a collector’s edition you tend to think of movies that generally might be considered classics or even strong cult followings. I’m not sure if “Silent Hill” qualifies as one of those, but I’m still intrigued by the idea of a collector’s edition for it.
The 2006 film adaptation of the classic horror game series didn’t set the world on fire. It got mostly negative reviews from critics and enjoyed a so-so run at the box office. Still, years later I think people are coming around to it as a film that maybe isn’t as bad as we thought it was. In fact, if you get into a conversation with someone about that movie they’re almost guaranteed to say either “it wasn’t that bad” or “I kind of liked it.”
While it didn’t quite live up to the nuance of the game’s story, it did present the concept with a pretty stunning visual style and I think that’s one of the reasons people remember it fondly now.
So I guess Scream Factory saw that building nostalgia for the film as they’ve gone ahead and decided to put together a collector’s edition for it. Not a whole lot is known about the total package, but there’s what they’ve revealed so far:
The 2006 horror hit SILENT HILL (starring Radha Mitchell and based off the popular game with the same name) is coming to Blu-ray this Summer from us in an all-new Collector’s Edition Blu-ray release!
Here are the early details we have at present time:
• National street date for North America (Region A) is July 9th.
• Release will come with a slipcover (guaranteed for three months after its original release date).
• The newly-commissioned artwork pictured comes to us from Devon Whitehead (Trick r Treat, Valentine, Sleepwalkers). This art will be front-facing and the reverse side of the wrap will feature alternate theatrical artwork (woman walking towards the town’s sign in the fog).
• Extras will be confirmed on a later date but we can confirm today this will be a 2-disc set and fully-loaded with extras. We are working closely with Director Christopher Gans.
Pre-orders on our site begin today which includes the Blu-ray plus a rolled 18” x 24” poster of the new art. The poster is exclusive to us and will be made at a limited-run.
If you’re interested in pre-ordering the film, here’s the link for you to check it out.
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the poster/Blu-Ray cover (which you can check out below). However, depending on what those extra special features might be I might jump on this.
