Screen Gems Might Be Working on a Slender Man Movie

Few internet creations come close to matching the popularity and culture impact that the Slender Man mythos have had.  Starting as a creation on the Something Awful forums, the Slender Man legend really blew up when the YouTube series Marble Hornets brought the creature to life.

Now, according to Comicbook, Screen Gems is looking to bring the urban legend to the big screen with a feature film adaptation.  The site reports that Screen Gems has already had screenwriter David Birke (“13 Sins”) whip up a script for them.  The plan is start shooting the film this Fall with the intention of releasing it in 2017.

For the uninitiated the Slender Man character is a tall man in a suit without a face that specializes in abducting people and messing with their heads.  Over the years various mediums like movies, written stories, and video games have tried to expand upon the mythos be giving the more Slender Man creature more of a background, but the character is really best as this supernatural enigma that torments people.
