Stephen King Responds to Latest ‘STAND’ News
Just recently Jason gave you all a new update on the upcoming Stephen King movie and now Stephen King himself has shared his thoughts on the new planned movie at Warner Brothers.
As you all should know Ben Affleck was initially slated to direct the project but ever since he decided to fight crime in Gotham it became obvious the studio would need a new director. That new director is complete unknown Josh Boone who has only directed two films according to his IMDB page.
Josh may not have 30 films under his belt but he does have an incredible passion for Stephen King which he had on full display when he recently spoke to Vulture telling them;
If 12-year-old me had ever known that one day I’d be doing this, to even just go back and look at that kid, I’d be like, Keep doing what you’re doing! It’s just crazy. I’ve met so many actors over the years, and like, when I met Stephen King, I hugged him with tears in my eyes. He meant that much to me when I was young. I still say everything I learned about writing I learned from Stephen King. I don’t read screenplays. I don’t read screenplay how-to books. It’s always just, establish the character. Establish the character.
Josh then laid out the framework for what he had planned with the film, namely he thinks he will be allowed to make one big monster 3 hour movie.
We’re gonna do one three-hour, R-rated version with an amazing A-list cast across the board. Every single one of those characters will be somebody you recognize and somebody you relate to. And it’s gonna be awesome. I’m really excited. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve ever got to do in my entire life.
Now let’s be honest here I love his passion but I think we all know that Warner Brothers will not blow their load on just one movie. They will go the whole nine yards and spin this puppy into as many sequels as possible. Stephen King has recently weighed in on the project and thrown his support behind the new director telling EW that he admires Josh’s passion;
He’s young and he’s ambitious and he’s totally behind the book and he seems to be doing a great job and seems to have a lot of support behind him from Warner Bros. So I have my fingers crossed, but that’s all that you need to do right? You just cross your fingers and hope.
Stephen King has a long rooted connection with Josh Boone which may or may not explain how he got a helping hand into the directors chair in the first place. As a tween his mother found his disguised copy of The Stand and burned it. In response Josh wrote to Stephen King who in turn mailed him signed copies of his books.
What are your thoughts on the upcoming STAND movie? Do you think that Josh has the pedigree to pull it off or would Ben Affleck have been better?
