‘Tales from the Crypt’ is Dead for Now at TNT
It was over a year ago that we first learned TNT had intentions of bringing “Tales from the Crypt” back from the dead and back to television. Since then there has been a lot of speculation about whether or not the series would actually make it to air. Well, now we know for sure kiddies.
In an interview with Deadline TNT executive Kevin Reilly opened up about the state of “Tales from the Crypt” and revealed that the project may finally be dead. According to Reilly all the legal issues surrounding the project may have pulled it under. Here’s what he had to say:
“That one got really caught up in a complete legal mess unfortunately with a very complicated underlying rights structure,” Reilly said of Tales From the Crypt. “We lost so much time, so I said, ‘Look, I’m not waiting around four years for this thing’. Maybe that will come back around but in the meantime, Ridley Scott had come up, who has so much creative enthusiasm.”
The big issue surrounding the project was that the rights to the series were tied up with all sorts of people. Seems like the headache of untangling that web wasn’t worth it for TNT and they’ve instead abandoned the idea of a horror block and are instead reinvesting in a Sci-Fi block of television spearheaded by Ridley Scott.
However, Reilly goes on to say that they aren’t opposed to doing a block of horror programming, they just don’t have any plans at the moment.
I’ve got a free idea for TNT. If you want a block of horror programming why not bring back Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs? You’re welcome TNT.
