‘The Host’ Director is Working on a New Monster Movie with Jake Gyllenhaal
If you haven’t seen Bong Joon-ho’s previous films, you’ve been missing. Bong has directed some great Korean films like the monster flick “The Host” and thriller “Mother.” He’s also recently expanded into some more international work with the Chris Evans starrer “Snowpiercer.” His movies might not be for everyone, but I think he turns out an interesting project every time.
So I’m a little excited to hear that he’s going down the monster movie path again with his new feature “Okja.” While not much is known about the film or its plot, Variety reported today that Bong Joon-ho is attempting to draw in some fairly talented actors to the project. For now some of these names might be in early talks, but it looks like the director is attempting to pull in Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Tilda Swinton, and Bill Nighy.
The film is expected to start shooting next year in April, so there’s still plenty of time to narrow down a cast. And despite the fact that this looks to predominantly English speaking cast, I would expect that the film will also feature Korean actors as Bong plans to film “Okja” in both the US and Korea.
