The Perfect Husband [Review]
Going into Lucas Pavetto’s The Perfect Husband, I initially thought it was just another run-of-the-mill horror flick in a secluded cabin, but there is much more than meets the eye with this one. It has several layers that slowly begin to peel away until you get to its rotten core, and that core might be a little too much for some viewers.
The film follows Viola (Gabriella Wright) and Nicola (Bret Roberts), a young married couple who are going through a very rough patch in their relationship due to the heartache of losing a baby. So, the couple decide to spend a weekend in a remote cabin belonged by Nicola’s parents to try to rekindle their relationship and overcome the overbearing loss.
All seems fine to begin with as they settle down and to try understand each other all over again while healing emotional wounds.
But soon things begin to take a turn for the worse when suspicions arise regarding potential infidelity and accusations begin to manifest themselves as they battle paranoia and the overwhelming feeling of jealousy and as such they begin to take their anger out on each other.
Soon, viola is in a desperate battle with her husband Nicola, which takes a violent turn as they are pushed to the brink via the emotional distress that they’re both under. They begin to battle and it turns into a life and death situation as they inflict as much pain on each other as humanly possible. It’s heart-wrenching, unnerving and utterly brutal right up until the shocking end.
It’s a beautifully shot film with great practical effects and a haunting mood. The acting at times seems a little off in places, but it’s nothing that bad. The violence may be a little too much for some, but it fits perfectly in such a psychological film as this one, and it’ll keep you on the edge of your seat right up until the very end.
However, the film starts off fairly slow. It’s definitely a slow-burn flick, but stick around as things go from 0-100 in a matter of seconds, and the ending will leave you questioning everything, you’ll be viewing this one many times to try to make heads and tails of it all.
It’s a genuinely entertaining flick that’s brutal, bloody, unnerving and visually satisfying. Artsploitation Films will be unleashing The Perfect Husband onto DVD this July 26th. Keep an eye on their official Facebook page for more.
