‘The Ring’ and ‘The Grudge’ Will Throwdown in Japanese Horror Film ‘Sadako vs Kayako’
Horror villains squaring off against each other isn’t a new phenomenon, but it happens so rarely that it’s still a big event when one gets announced. And it’s even better when the two combatants have been long time rivals for your movie going dollar.
Kadokawa studios announced today that they are partnering with NBCUniversal to unite their respective franchises “The Ring” and “The Grudge” for a movie that will put the two iconic monsters together on the screen. The movie is called “Sadako vs Kayako.” If you don’t remember Sadako is the ghost girl from “The Ring” and Kayako is the ghost girl from “The Grudge.”
So far the only name attached to the project is actress Mizuki Yamamoto who will play the unfortunate girl who manages to find yourself trapped between the two opposing forces of evil. The film is expected to hit Japan in June 2016.
Given that “The Ring” is getting ready to release a new sequel in the near future I have to wonder if this crossover will see an American remake. If the new film, titled “The Rings”, does very well I think the possibility of uniting the two franchises for American audiences would seem like a tempting idea.
What do you think? Interested in seeing a crossover between “The Ring” and “The Grudge”? Who do you think would win?
