‘The Stand’ Gets Pushed Back While a New Stephen King Novel Gets Adapted

Just when we thought “The Stand” had finally gotten it’s act together and was ready to hit the road, the production decided to take a detour down a different Stephen King road.

Deadline is reporting that “The Stand” director Josh Boone has opted to push back the adaptation of the Stephen King novel and instead work on a different adaptation of a Stephen King novel.  Apparently while working on the script for “The Stand” Josh started working in conjunction with King and producer  Michael De Lu on a script for King’s 2014 novel “The Revival.”  Here’s how Deadline describes the novel:

“The Revival” is about a charismatic preacher who loses his faith when his wife and child are killed in a tragic accident. Unhinged from the religion that grounded and gave him a conscience, the preacher becomes ruthless in his experimentation into the healing but dangerous power of electrical current, positioning him to act as God-like faith healer and opening a terrifying Pandora’s Box. Intertwined with the preacher is a young man with demons of his own, who has benefited from the preacher’s talents and becomes a reluctant accomplice to his deadly obsession.

Funny enough, this actually won’t be an easier project for Boone to put together.  While not as challenging as adapting “The Sand”, this film brings it own unique challenge to the table as the story takes place across a 50 year timespan.

Meanwhile “The Stand” is going through a bit of shifting around as well, which might’ve led to Boone taking on this new project.  According to Deadline Warner Bros’ option on the film has run out and reverted back to CBS films, so now some new negotiations have to take place to determine if the film will stay with Warner Bros or got to another studio.

In the meantime Boone hopes to have this film made within the year, so it’ll serve as a good warm-up act for his return to “The Stand” once that production gets back on track.
