Top 10 Horror Video Games For 2015

So the calender is reset and we have another 365 days of awesomeness to live through. But what’s more awesome than video games? Nothing! That’s what! Except maybe horror video games… I’ve compiled a list of my favorite, top ten horror video games that I would like to play (with a blanket and a nightlight) this year. And if you don’t see the one you’ve been itching to play on the list, feel free to add it!

10. U55 – End of the Line

If you’re a fan of H.P. Lovecraft, you’re gonna want to take a lot at German-made U55 – End of Line brought to us by the Effective Evolution Studio. Told like a TV mini-series rather than your traditional gameplay, the idea takes a page from The Last of Us genre-bending game-style. If you don’t believe me, check it out for yourself. Here is a note from the game-makers themselves:

U55 – END OF THE LINE is a horror-adventure deeply rooted in H.P.Lovecrafts world-famous Cthulhu Mythology. It is told in 9 episodes of roughly 45 minutes and 3 bonus episodes and features unique gameplay elements, extraordinary sound design and strong narratives.

9. Dying Light

Fabled since 2012 to be the long-anticipated sequel to “Dead Island”, this game is actually something completely different set in a completely different country. -Turkey to be exact and you can play as a kick-ass zombie. And hey, I had to give this game a nod for the new trailer they came out with regarding the New Year with the tagline “Good night, good luck”. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can watch it below. This one is due to come out January 27th. So very soon!

8. Until Dawn

I like a good movie or game that shows stupid teenagers getting mercilessly hacked and slashed. Was that too blunt? I sure hope so. And this rambunctious bunch of 8 teenagers don’t have “Scooby Doo” to rely on when sh*# gets weird in a cabin. They are actually getting hunted down by a serial killer and will probably turn against each-other to get out alive. But everybody dies. -Here’s hoping… You might be sympathetic, however, to the character of Sam as her voice is played by television cheerleader and honky-tonk singer Hayden Penetierre. To be released this Summer.

7. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

If you like the blow-your-mind graphics of Skyrim and a world 20% bigger than that, well, you just found your next game to crack-out on. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an upcoming action role-playing video game set in an open world environment, that is currently in development by Polish video game developer CD Projekt RED. It is a stand-along game experience so you don’t have to play the first two games to understand what’s going on in this one.

The initial release date is set for May 19th, but reviews are already coming in this year on how the concept art is something to make any art school student cry in envy. And apparently this won an award for the most anticipated game of the year. Neat-o.

6. Evolve

All I needed to hear was this title comes from the same twisted minds/creators who envisioned the “Left 4 Dead” series. And from what I’m finding, there are more twisted and hell-bent monsters that crawl out of the woodwork than you have ever faced in L4D.

From Turtle Rock Studios (creators of Left 4 Dead) comes Evolve — the next generation of multiplayer shooters. Four Hunters face off against a single, player-controlled Monster in adrenaline-pumping 4v1 matches. Play as the Monster to use savage abilities and an animalistic sense to kill your human enemies, or choose one of four Hunter classes (Assault, Trapper, Medic and Support) and team up to take down the beast on the planet Shear, where flora and fauna act as an adversary to man and monster alike.

5. Hellraid

This one is described as “a first-person hack’n’slash game, set in a dark fantasy universe based on medieval European folklore.” Sign me up! And because this title is coming to Steam along with other platforms AND is another title from Techland, creators of “Dying Light,” I’m already a fan from what I’ve seen from the trailers. Again, since Techland was suppose to work on Dead Island 2, this game was suppose to be a “mod” for the Dead Island franchise, but it look bad-ass enough to stand on it’s own. Coming sometime this year!

Here is the official gameplay trailer:

4. Dead Island 2

What can I say about this one other than that I really loved playing the first one… waking up after a drug-induced rave in a beautiful hotel only to find anything and everything around me to use as a weapon to fend off zombies. It is FINALLY here and coming this Spring, 2015. I’m so curious to see how this will stack-up against Dying Light as the folks at Techland were originally summoned to create this one, but did their own thang. Don’t know what I mean? See item #9.

3. Soma

What can I say about this one other than “creepy!” Seriously! Have you seen any of the game-play videos yet? This horror strategy game lets you re-animate certain undead parts to solve the puzzles to get to the next stage or…um…next dead thingy. I feel that I’m doing a horrible job at explaining this one, so I’m just going to attach the trailer and let you judge for yourself! This one is categorized as a sci-fi, action horror game, but I refer to my first statement….Creepy!

2. The Order: 1886

So if you like “Steampunk” and if you like killing lots of monsters, this looks like the game for you. I mean, the ghost/monster-blasting packs on these dude’s backs look like Ghostbusters-gone-Steampunk. But you don’t have to take my word for it. And there looks like more twisted worlds and monsters than you can shake a stick at… Never a bad thing.

As “Professor Elemental” would say, “Put on your fighting trousers!”

1. Bloodborne

PlayStation store points towards a release date of March 31 2015, but I really can’t wait until this game comes out only to play it with a blanket draped over my face and a eye poking out. If you are a fan of the ‘Dark Souls’ series, you will definitely not want to miss out on this title. From watching all the trailers and game-play teasers, this looks a little like Soul Weaver meets Undead Redemption. But you can insert your own comparison in the comments if I missed something.
