Walking Dead Finale Draws in 12.4 Million Viewers

While The Walking Dead’s season finale may have divided the fanbase and left a sour taste in some people’s mouths, it’s viewership turned out in big numbers to watch it all unfold.

Last night’s episode managed to draw in 12.4 million viewers.  In comparison, season two’s finale drew in 9 million viewers.  Clearly the Walking Dead is showing no signs of slowing down.  Despite the complaints horror fans may raise, there is a large and growing fanbase for the show.

AMC’s President Charlier Collier had this to say about the the show’s big finale:

“Two words: Grateful. Dead. It’s a joy that we get to work with such tremendous talent to make ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Talking Dead’ come to life for audiences that continue to engage and grow. In just three seasons, ‘The Walking Dead’ has become a pop-culture phenomenon, entertaining millions of passionate viewers and obliterating traditional lines between cable and broadcast television.”

Talking Dead also did pretty well in it’s own right.  It drew in 5 million viewers, which was a record high for that show.

Given the ire that the finale inspired among fans, it’ll be interesting to see if season four’s premiere will match, exceed or fall below the numbers put up last night.
