Will ‘Friday the 13th’ Feature a New Origin Story?
Ah, the Friday the 13th franchise. This sucker has had more false starts than I care to remember, but it finally looks as if there is movement over at the Platinum Dunes camp. And for those of you who are against the idea of the found-footage twist, you’ll be pleased to know that it’s dead in the water.
So, just what is the direction of the new entry in the Friday the 13th franchise?
The folks over at The Reel World recently had the chance to speak with Brad Fuller regarding the latest installment from Aaron Guzikowski’s script. Fuller stated the following;
Aaron’s story has great characters…You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward.
This leads to the question, will this be an origin story?
Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.
And regarding the whole found-footage angle, fuller states;
There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world.
So, I’m guessing we will see more of Pamela and perhaps something a little deeper into the Voorhees’ past? What do you guys think?
The film is yet to find a directed and it’s scheduled for a release date this January 13, 2017, but who knows if that will hold up or not. We’ll keep you updated as more unfolds.
