Wondercon Day One in Photos

It’s that time of year where we get ready for the big cons by attending what I like to think is the pre-game for the rest of the year: Wondercon.

This year is rather light when it comes to the horror, but I decided to do my due diligence and hang around the con to see if could find anything of interest.  Ultimately I found some rather cool things for sale and some really dedicated cosplayers.  I documented my findings with photos that you can check out down below.

There was also going to be a panel for “Time After Time” time today that would’ve featured the cast and crew of the show. This would have been an interesting showing as the show itself was cancelled two days ago.  Could you imagine what it would have been like to host a panel with a show that was so short lived? It would have been magical.  Sadly, they decided to show an early look at the new season of “iZombie” so I said thanks, but no thanks and left the con shortly after that.

For now  here’s a look at what I witnessed at Wondercon 2017 with photos by Carmen Zapata.

These statues were pretty incredible to see in person and their detail was only matched by their price.  Each one ranged from $400 to $2000.  They had a nice range of genres represented including TV, video games, and movies.  Above you can see the wolf from “The Howling.”

I have no idea what this was for, but it was fantastic. I would love to own one.

Wondercon10

They had these Ironman themed Renaults on display.  Don’t know what would possess someone to buy one, but then again, I just admitted to wanting a fat McDonald situation so who am I to judge?

Wondercon12

Capcom had one of the best booths at the con with this 90s themed set-up to show off their upcoming Disney Afternoon game.

Some more cool swag on display at the Capcom booth.

One of the booths had to playable pinball machines.  One was Ghostbuster themed and the other a Metallica one.  Sorry for the odd angle, the machines were in constant use and it was hard to get a picture that didn’t accidentally capture someone’s intense mug. Wondercon18

Not a cosplay, but a costume replica of the batman outfit featured in the “Batman vs Superman”movie.  You can also see Zoom in the background there from the “Flash” TV series.

Wondercon19

A pretty detailed Borderlands cosplay. Also, in the background, you’ll notice a banner for “Midnight Texas.”  NBC must’ve brought a dump truck full of cash to the con cause they had the entire place plastered in ads for the show.

Wondercon20

Probably one of my favorite costumes. The blaster and jewel on the head both lit up.  Even in the sunlight it was pretty visible. Really solid cosplay.

Wondercon21

There was not shortage of “Assassin’s Creed” outfits, but this one was one of the more detail rich ones.

Wondercon22

Okay, wait, this was my favorite outfit.  It was a hip hop Stormtrooper with a giant boombox that was so intense you could feel it in your chest from 20 feet out.  He was accompanying a pretty dope looking Soundwave from Transformers. I was hoping to see them actually do some breakdancing, but it didn’t happen. Still, a rad costume.

Wondercon24

One of the Amazonian women from the “Futurama” episode where they sentence the men to death by Snoo-Snoo.

Wondercon25

Alright, I lied again. This Zorg outfit from the “Fifth Element” might have been my favorite costume.  The guy even had a gun with a functioning red button.  It was truly impressive.
