You Voted: 20 Worst Horror Movies ’2013′ Edition
You voted is a regular series where we poll our readers to decide the pulse of the horror movie genre. We never completely agree with the answers but there is no denying that when the fans speak you can’t easily dismiss it. The latest question we tossed at our hungry audience was what are the worst horror movies of all time?
The answers came pouring in and over 197 movies were nominated by HUNDREDS of votes. We have counted all the votes and have put together the list of Worst Horror Movies based off the votes of you our readers. I am in many ways shocked at some of the answers our readers provided and in the same breath shocked at movies that did not get mentioned but we will discuss that in the comments.
I did make two major edits that altered the outcome of the vote. #6 and #11 on the list were people and since we asked for Worst Movie not director I removed those votes and answers. For the sake of not leaving you in suspense Rob Zombie was #6 and Uwe Boll was #11.
You can debate about that one in the comments below but in the meantime here are the results of the poll in order from the least worst to absolute worst based off the votes of our readers;
#20 – Jeepers Creepers
I think that the reason that Jeepers Creepers is so highly despised has more to do with the filmmaker then the movie itself but that is just my opinion. I happen to think Jeepers Creepers is a fantastic movie but this is our readers votes not my list so it lands at the #20 spot.
#19 – Jason Takes Manhattan
Jason Takes Manhattan is one of the most hated in the franchise and it’s not hard to find people who shake their heads at its sheer mention. No surprise it lands at #19.
#18 – Human Centipede
The Human Centipede was shocking, disgusting and over the top but I happened to think it was a very creative film. Do I want to watch it again ? Absolutely not! Our readers voted it #18 on the list but I think that as mainstream horror gets more and more watered down we should embrace the unique concepts even the ones that are so crazy they might make you ill.
#17 – Zombie Nation
#16 – Stitches
I want to comment quickly about Stitches and Zombie Nation mentioned above. I do not believe it is fair to list indie films on a list and REALLY wanted to remove them but I did not think I was being honest in doing so.
With Stitches and the indie flick Zombie Nation just remember the majority is not always right considering the number of people who saw these two films is quite small I am assuming compared to say Jeepers Creepers. My 2 cents.
#15 – Cabin Fever
Cabin Fever I think falls into the ‘you love it’ or ‘you hate it’ category. I for one happen to think that Cabin Fever is one of Eli Roth’s best films but regardless our readers voted it #15 on the list.
#14 – Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake
Platinum Dunes can not get a break and Texas Chainsaw Massacre was doomed to make this list pretty much from the moment we asked our readers to choose the films they hated the most. I for one enjoyed the remake but when you revisit a classic of the size of Tobe Hooper’s 70′s masterpiece you are assured to piss off fans.
#13 – Creepshow 3
Creepshow 3 was mediocre but worth seeing to me but our readers had a harsher view on things voting it to #13 on the list.
#12 – Paranormal Activity
Paranormal Activity is the most profitable movie ever made but despite this some fans really REALLY don’t like it. My only issue with Paranormal Activity is how hard they pushed the marketing on the movie on how scary it was. I don’t need a studio telling me what is scary and continuous shots of Joe Neighbour and his wife being horrified leaving a screening doesn’t sell me a ticket it turns me off.
#11 – Day of the Dead Remake
There were two Day of the Dead remakes and lets just say they both were so bad it is outright embarrassing. Hate running zombies? One of these debacles featured spider man zombies that could climb walls. This one deserved to make the list for sure.
#10 – Chernobyl Diaries
I am honestly not sure why Chernobyl Diaries made the list other than it might be fresh in our readers minds. This movie is not a horrible film but it’s also not a great film it’s just a run of the mill tale of radioactive mutants. Think of it as a lower grade Hills Have Eyes… much lower.
#9 – Cabin in the Wooods
I am not going to say anything about this one other than REALLY? Loved Cabin in the Woods myself but it seems like Cabin Fever it’s another one of those you either love it or you hate it.
#8 – Sinister
Ethan Hawke never gets any respect it seems in his genre titles. I am not a big fan of Supernatural movies so I passed on Sinister and can’t comment on its inclusion here other than to say our readers did not seem to enjoy it.
#7 – Fright Night Remake
I actually thought the remake of Fright Night was one of the better remakes to come out of Hollywood. Initially I thought it looked horrid and I hated the casting choices but Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell actually pulled it off in my books. Regardless you all voted the remake #7 on the list.
#6 – JASON X
Jason X is so bad it is awesome. Clearly not everyone agree’s as you voted it #6. If you love cheesy b-movies like Dead Heat you will absolutely love Jason X!
#5 – Texas Chainsaw 3D
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D was a classic example of a movie that had no business being made and deserves to be at #5.
#4 – Thankskilling
I honestly think that this is another case of people not getting the ’its so bad its good’ but until I see it that is all I have to say.
#3 – House of the Dead
Uwe Boll’s House of the Dead is atrocious but it has grown on me over time going from horrible to ‘so bad its good’.
#2 – Halloween 2 [ Rob Zombie ]
Halloween 2 is an absolutely horrendous film and not only did it land at #2 but it did so with a staggering amount of votes from our readers.
#1 – Nightmare on Elm Street Remake
Try as I might I could not get through this movie. It is not very common that I turn a movie off but I aborted this film twice each time making it 15 minutes further than the last time. Clearly I was not alone.
So there you have it the 20 worst horror movies 2013 edition based off the votes of our readers. I have to admit that some of the choices on this list are pretty shocking while others are pretty valid choices.
It also seems that when people voted they had alot of newer films in mind because in my view there are alot of older films which are much worse then many on this list.
A few that are missing that I think should be avoided at all costs are Alone in the Dark starring Tara Reid and directed by Uwe Boll, Raiders of the Living Dead and Zombie 5. As far as I am concerned they are far worse then 80% of the movies on this list.
If you want to see what this list looked like 2 years ago we asked our readers the very same question in 2011 and you can see those answers here; Worst Horror Films of All Time, 2011 Edition
